| Gilding is the ancient art of placing gold, silver, or copper onto an object for ornamentation. Some of the most beautiful furniture for 6 centuries has included gilding. Ordinary quality furniture can come alive with charm and elegance with the discreet addition of gold leaf. Fire places and other architectural woodwork sparkle with classic splendor when gilding is applied to ornamentation.
I use water gilding or oil gilding depending on the object and desired effect. Both methods strive for the same end, but some of the material and processes differ. Water gilding is the most painstaking and the more traditional. Water gilding produces a more brilliant finish than oil finish. Oil gilding causes the gold to have a more matte appearance.
I will be pleased to repair your gilded object or assess your piece to determine if gilding would enhance its appearance.
